While the Electricity Grid across the country now generally operates at one single frequency, there are still some intervals when the NEW and SR grid operate at different frequencies. The number of such intervals has reduced significantly since the two grids got synchronized on 31st Dec 2013. Thus even though the following charts depict the two major GRIDs separately, however at most instances they would reflect the same frequency. Please note that “NEW Grid” represents the synchronously connected Northern, Eastern, Western and North-Eastern Grid while “SR Grid” represents the Southern Region Grid, which till 31st Dec 2013 was connected to the NEW Grid through asynchronous HVDC Link (High Voltage Direct Current Transmission Link) but was subsequently synchronized with the NEW Grid to create the World’s Biggest Synchronous Grid.
